Building Communities

Framework for Community Development and support for the development of women, vulnerable adults, orphaned and vulnerable children in the area Sivile serves.

The projects vision is to restore dignity and hope to marginalised and vulnerable persons in situations of desperate need in rural communities, by supporting the needs of the ‘whole person’. The project is designed to provide support for the development of women, vulnerable adults, orphaned and vulnerable children through Sivile Housing Association community development programmes designed to alleviate poverty in the area.

• Community Health Support, ministered to the sick, dying, destitute and poor people, as well as to orphans and vulnerable children in isolated rural communities of Greater Kokstad Municipality and Hardenberg under Alfred Nzo Municipality. These services are offered through Community Health Workers (CHW’s) identified and trained from within their own communities. Through this programme Sivile bridges the gap between isolated rural communities and formal healthcare programmes.

• Child & Family Referral Centres, which offer support to children and families in the area surrounding Greater Kokstad Municipality and Hardenberg. These programmes intend including respite programmes for orphans and vulnerable children with extended professional health, psychological care, early childhood development (ECD) and paralegal advices.

• Conduct ‘Behavioral Change’ training through Life Skills and referral system programs in partnership with government and non-governmental organisation in the Greater Kostad Municipality.

• The main aim of these programmes is to develop training aimed at elevating subsistence farming activities of cooperatives to commercial level. Currently, subsistence farming and high unemployment are prevalent features of both Greater Kokstad Municipality and Hardenberg in the Alfred Nzo Municipality’s rural economy. The program also aims to develop local initiatives to improve skills and food security and contribute to the bigger picture and global movement towards Millennium Development Goals and Poverty Alleviation Programmes adopted by the current government as a strategy to alleviate extreme with an aim to eradicate it completely.
